What are facial aesthetics?

This is a term used for treatments that reduce or eliminate skin wrinkles or firm up parts of the face that have started to sag or thin through the loss of natural collagen (a consequence of ageing). This is usually carried out by injecting the treatment just under the skin in the required areas.

The process

Before you have the treatment, we will arrange for you to have an initial consultation with the clinicians within our Canterbury dentist. They are highly trained and experienced and will be able to guide you through the process of what happens and also listen to what you hope to achieve from the treatment before putting an action plan together to help you achieve them.

Treatments for wrinkled skin and thinning lips or sagging cheeks all require a serum to be injected just below the skin in the areas affected. In the case of wrinkled skin, the serum helps to relax the facial muscles a little and gives a smoother appearance to your skin.

For thinning lips or sagging cheeks, dermal fillers will be injected to ‘plump’ them up. This substance helps to replace the missing natural collagen that is reduced with age. These are not the only areas that this product might be used for though, Others include reducing the lines from the corner of the mouth to the chin (marionette lines) and also help to reduce the dark circles and hollows that can appear beneath the eyes.

Considerations

If you have seen some extreme results caused by these treatments, you shouldn’t be concerned. These results should not be seen if the procedure has been carried out by experienced clinicians like our own. We reserved the right to refuse to carry out any treatment that we think is either dangerous or extreme. We are sure you will be happy with the results of your treatment.

While the treatment isn’t painful, you might feel a slight pricking sensation as the fine needle enters the skin. It is worth noting that there may be some localised bruising and swelling in the area of the injection for a short period afterwards in some people. This will soon go but it is worth bearing in mind when you book your treatment appointment so that you can avoid the after effects of your treatment clashing with any social occasions that you might have already arranged.

The results of the treatments received will last for a significant period of time. The clinicians will advise you how long to expect. Eventually, the effects will start to fade. Where required, you can repeat the treatments as often as you wish to maintain your smoother skin. Some people do this for years while others sometimes have a ‘one off’ treatment for a special occasion, such as for their wedding day, sometimes followed by a teeth whitening procedure to look their best for the wedding photos.
