Boost Your Smile Ready For Spring!

Are you based in Canterbury and considering a smile makeover in time for spring?

Smiling person at the clinicPerhaps we are being a little premature, but some of you may have noticed the snowdrops doing their best to flower and the definite hint of more pleasant weather to come over the last few days or so.

Undoubtedly, there will be more bad weather in the coming weeks, but even a few days of sunshine reminds us of the benefits we feel as spring approaches.

Although it might be a few weeks away yet, now is perhaps a good time to start thinking about how you can improve your smile so that you feel happier and more confident with it by the time that spring comes.

With that in mind, let’s take a look at some of the suggestions offered by the team at Bradley and Partners Dental & Implant Clinic.

A spring clean

Hopefully, you all brush your teeth well at any time of the year, but, as you might be thinking about new clothes etc for the new season, why not also use this time to refresh your oral health store cupboard? A new toothbrush, or a change of heads on your electric one is advised every three months or so. Unless you have recently changed it, now would be a good time to do so. If you have previously given up on dental floss because you found it difficult, now could be another time to give it another try. It really isn’t that hard and takes just a short period of time to master.

Finally, a trip to the hygienist is in order. Not only will this help you to have a much healthier mouth and help to keep gum disease at bay, but will also remove some staining materials from your teeth. Following your scale and polish, your teeth will not only feel fresher, but look nicer too!

Whiter teeth?

Although a scale and polish can boost the brightness of your teeth to a degree, and is a very good thing to have done for a number of reasons, it may not whiten them sufficiently if they are stained or discoloured. You will need to have an examination to determine what the most appropriate treatment will be, but the most popular and effective option for those seeking to whiten their teeth is the teeth whitening procedure.

This is both a fast acting and safe treatment that can boost the whiteness of your teeth by up to eight shades. For most people, this is a highly effective treatment that can last for some time before the treatment needs to be repeated. This can be safely done as often as you wish. Indeed, some people have their teeth continually whitened to maintain their new look, whilst others may opt to have this treatment as a one off for a special occasion, such as a holiday. Whatever reason you have, we are confident that you will be delighted with the results.

Dental veneers

Everyone should see an improvement in the whiteness of their teeth following the above procedure, however, there may be some for whom the improvement may not be sufficient. This is most likely to be the case for smokers, or ex smokers, whose teeth have become a shade of brown or yellow. Once it has reached this stage, the most appropriate action to take is usually to have porcelain veneers fitted. These, in effect, replace the front surface enamel of your teeth with an equivalent thickness of porcelain. Whilst it usually does require minor invasive dentistry, it is a very effective and long lasting option.

Porcelain veneers generally last in the region of ten years but this does depend on how well you look after your teeth. A tooth supporting a veneer that develops a cavity may weaken its attachment, so it is important that you continue to brush and floss well.

Veneers are also an excellent option for anyone whose teeth are chipped or cracked. A teeth whitening procedure will improve the whiteness but does nothing to disguise these other flaws and may indeed highlight them. Veneers offer a great way to have a fantastic smile even if your teeth have developed these types of flaws over the years.
