Cfast And Invisalign – Two Popular Teeth Straightening Solutions

Patients of Bradley and Partners in Canterbury can now enjoy straighter teeth with the latest orthodontic systems.

You may have crooked teeth yourself, or perhaps know someone who has and have wondered why they haven’t had them straightened? In many cases, this is because of the concern about wearing metal dental braces, often for a considerably long time. This is understandable but also must be frustrating for the person concerned. One the one hand, straighter teeth means that you have a more attractive smile. On the other hand, it may mean you having to put up with some unkind comments for the period of time that you are wearing the braces due to their obvious positioning.

If you have this dilemma, or know someone who has, we have some good news for you. Our Canterbury dentist has a range of modern orthodontics which are able to straighten your teeth while also being much more discreet than the traditional dental braces that you are possibly more familiar with.

Invisalign

We have discussed these before in previous blogs so we will keep this part relatively brief.

Invisalign orthodontics are designed to be used where there are more significant corrections needed to your teeth. By this, we mean when it is not just the visible front teeth that are crooked, but also those further back and less visible. You might wonder why these teeth matter as much, but crooked teeth often cause incorrect bites and premature damage and wearing can easily occur. Straighter teeth are also usually easier to keep clean and therefore help to ward off tooth decay as well.

The Invisalign system uses a series of transparent ‘trays’ that fit over your teeth. Each of these works to gently ‘push’ the teeth towards their end position. Once one has done its job, it is taken out and replaced by the next one until your teeth are straight and even again.

Invisalign has the advantage of not only being very discreet but also removable when you eat and for cleaning your teeth.

Cfast

We will focus more on Cfast braces today as people are perhaps less familiar with them. They also address a need which many people will be able to relate to. While we feel that it is important that all of a patient’s teeth are straight and even, the reality is that, for most people, their main worry is that their front teeth are crooked and that everyone can see them.

Because these visible teeth are mostly single rooted, they tend to be easier to correct and therefore it is likely that you will have to wear teeth braces for a much shorter time to achieve your aim. This is where Cfast dental braces come into their own. Not only do the company offer clear aligners, similar to those of Invisalign, but also offer a fast acting teeth straightening solution for those concerned about their visible front teeth and it is these that we will look at now.

Cfast Fixed

As the name indicates, these braces are not removable as the tray versions are, and are used for a different situation. Cfast Fixed are designed to adjust and straighten the position of the visible ‘social six’ front teeth in order to give you a more attractive smile.

They work in a similar way to traditional dental braces, but instead of being made from visible metal, as traditional ones are, both the brackets and the wiring used are made from transparent or tooth coloured materials.

Before you have these fitted, you will be given a thorough examination to determine the best course of treatment and also any other issues will be addressed before we straighten your teeth. After all, there is little point in straightening teeth that are decaying! Once this has been done, your orthodontic treatment can start.

Transparent brackets are first attached to the front surface of your teeth using a dental adhesive. Tooth coloured wiring is then threaded through these which are then tightened to apply a gentle pressure that encourages the teeth towards their correct position (see a simple animation here). You will be monitored by the dentist at Bradley and Partners Dental & Implant Clinic throughout the course of the treatment, both to check on the progress and to make any adjustments that might be needed.

Although this system is not removable, it is still discreet and is also fast acting. The length of the treatment time will depend on your individual situation and your dentist will be able to advise the approximate time they might take to achieve their aims. On average though, the treatment takes around just five months, after which time, we are sure that you will be delighted with the results.

Once your orthodontic treatment is complete, whether using the Cfast or Invisalign system, why not treat yourself to a teeth whitening procedure too, to bring out the very best smile possible.
